Brazilian-born pianist Sergio Gallo, who lives and teaches in Atlanta, included five Brazilian composers on his CD "Mostly Villa-Lobos." This piece is by Ernesto Nazareth (1863-1934), whose elegant salon style was fashionable in Brazil during the early decades of the last century. Nazareth composed over 200 works, synthesizing the various elements of Brazilian music. This charming waltz shows the influence of Chopin on Nazareth, whom Villa-Lobos described as "the true incarnation of the Brazilian soul."
That Brazilian soul finds a sensitive and artistic interpreter in Sergio, whose delicate yet precise touch creates a wonderfully soothing, calming and uplifting mood in this sweet morsel of melodic beauty.
I filmed the wildflowers one spring a few years ago when we had an exceptionally good year for wildflowers. The main locations are Gorman, halfway between Los Angeles and Bakersfield; Figueroa Mountain in the Santa Ynez valley; and the California poppy reserve in Antelope Valley.
I'm hoping you'll use this video for both relaxation and mindful meditation. The calming music by itself will soothe your emotions, as will the natural beauty and the lovely colors of the wildflowers. Try to let your mind stop thinking or worrying about anything else, by focusing your full attention on the visual and musical beauty, as it flows by, moment by moment. You can practice training your attention to become steady and focused, by trying to pay full attention to the music and video, continuously, throughout one complete scene, just a few seconds long, until it dissolves into the next scene.
