“I’d Wait A Million Years” will be the biggest hit for the Grass Roots in 1969. Today it is at #30 and will peak at #15 in mid-September. The Grass Roots, with all of their different line ups, will appear on American Bandstand 11 times between 1967-1982.
Music, fashion and attitudes have changed dramatically since the new checkerboard set and “ab” logo were introduced in 1965 as demonstrated by Woodstock which starts in 6 days (Aug. 15th). With the changing times, it was (long past) time for changes to American Bandstand as well. Today’s clip is from the final days of the current set (check out a pic of today’s ”golden risers” in the Community tab) , logo and Les Elgart’s theme song with the new set, “AB” logo, and Mike Curb‘s theme song just 4 weeks away. There is also a lot of turnover in the dancers as well. The only regulars I spotted today include Karen Sudlow & Don Sanuskar spinning at 1:44 and Art Mikaelian & Robin Miller dancing away from the crowd at 2:13.
