Learn how using a water-reducing admixture or viscosity-modifying agent can help you control the slump of your concrete.
Incorrect slump is a common reason why loads of ready-mixed concrete get rejected from a job site. Every job has different requirements and it is up to the concrete quality control technician to ensure that every specification is met through a series of tests. One of the most common tests is the slump test, and if your concrete fails it will get sent back to the plant.
Fortunately, changing the slump of your concrete is very easy when you use a viscosity-modifying agent or water reducer. These two admixtures types, increase the quality and versatility of your concrete.
Water-reducing admixtures allow you to increase the flowability of your concrete without changing the water-to-cement ratio. This means that you can decrease the slump without adding water, and therefore keep your concrete strong.
A viscosity-modifying agent, on the other hand, decreases the slump by tightening the consistency of your concrete. These admixtures are excellent for concrete mixes that will be used to create curbs or other free-standing projects.
