After the end of WWII, the Federal Republic of Germany was, of course, rebuilding its manufacturing infrastructure. Part of that was its bus manufacturing capacity. But, in the years following the end of the war, German buses were of an old design and specification, based on pre-war models.
That was going to change in 1954. In December of that year, Daimler-Benz AG introduced the O 321H, a rear-engined vehicle that could be built in both long-distance and city versions. But, the most striking difference was in its styling. It was unlike any other bus built in Germany. it was the bus that put German bus building on the map and set the country on a course for high-quality modern buses for domestic and international use.
See and hear the story of the Daimler-Benz O 321H and HL!!
