In the Battle of the Colmar Pocket, Murphy held his ground on top of a burning tank destroyer, firing a .50-cal machine gun at advancing enemy troops and stopping the attack all by himself.
His actions saved his unit, changed the outcome of the battle, and earned him the Medal of Honor, making him one of the most decorated soldiers in U.S. history.
