I bought this cassette from Early Learning Center in Truro in October 2002
along with 3 other CRS Records tapes and Travelling Songs released by
CYP Music as the Travelling songs cassette I bought in 1998 with the green
cover got chewed up and warped which I was upset about at the time
( my original copy of Happy time songs and rhymes also got chewed up
and a CYP cassette produced for Tring called "Going to the zoo" ).
Even though I had a few CRS Records cassettes growing up and heard a few
others elsewhere I never used to be overly keen on CRS Records and gave
away many of my older CRS Records cassettes but by 2001 I thought
CRS Records had really improved after Phil Waddington started recording
most backing tracks on a Roland Sound Canvas SC-88 Pro at The Music Factory
( a small state if the art recording studio owned by Andy Mudd ) although
there are some revoiced and reused Roland D-70 backing tracks which
I didn't like very much at the time but I do now look back on those years
with nostalgia but also these new CRS Records had very colourful cover
art designed by Steve Turner which looks a lot nicer compared to the
sterile mainly white inlays of the 1980s to 1997. This cassette also
features a few backing tracks done by several other musians including
Justin Crowe who used a Korg 05R/W ( also at Andy Mudd's recordig
studio ) which sounds similar to the Korg 01/W that Antony England
used on the green Travelling songs cassette released as part of CYP's
own PlayTime range based on the yellow Chad Valley range produced
exclusively for Woolworths in 1996 although Antony also used a Roland
U-20 or U-220 for the piano so the piano sounds similar to the D-70 but
still a decent piano sound whereas Korg's piano tones of that era sound
a little thin and percussive but the Korg Triton was the first Korg workstation
to feature better piano sounds and the piano sounds on the Korg Kronos and
even the Korg Krome are still some of the best piano sounds I have ever
heard on a music workstation.
