Build this high performance, 13 dBd-gain beam antenna for around $25. This is a Quagi design, originally developed in the 1970s by Wayne Overbeck and others for EME and terrestrial operations. The antenna is built around a quad antenna backend with a Yagi-style front end. The result is a powerful hybrid antenna that is easy to build and matches directly to the transmission line. This build is for the 70cm (440 MHZ) band, but Wayne Overbeck's article describes dimensions for similar antennas in the 2 meter, 1.25 meter (220 MHz), and 23 cm (1296 MHz) bands.
