Hey everybody, Ryan here at ETrailer. Today on our 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan, we're gonna be showing you how to install the Hopkins Trailer Wiring kit. But before we get to that, why don't we just take a minute check this out and make sure it's gonna work for you. These vans are really capable and people use them to do a ton of different things which does include pulling a trailer around. And if that's what you plan on doing you're gonna need a way to illuminate all the lights that way you stay safe and legal, especially considering something like this is required to have whenever you are pulling a trailer around. So what this is gonna do is plug into the trailer and power everything up.

This is the four-way flat type connector. This is a really common type and we'll work with a lot of your smaller and mid-size trailers and not to mention a lot of cargo carriers and other accessories now have lights on 'em and this will be able to power all those up as well. In terms of actually securing your wiring connector you have a couple options you can do like we did today and just use the dust cover to wrap it around the safety chain openings on your hitch or if you want it to be a little more permanent you know you can mount it up like this by using a no drill long bracket that clamps around the hitch and then a four-way flat that this will plug into. So that's another option for you. I do like that they give you a little sleeve of dielectric grease.

That way from time to time you can put it on the terminals and that'll just help protect it against corrosion and from getting too chewed up. But other than that, pretty straightforward kit you know it's gonna get the job done and power everything up. In terms of the install, really not too bad more time consuming than anything just cause you have to route a lot of wires. But you know, we'll show you how we did ours and hopefully that'll make things a little bit easier on you. So if you'd like to see how that's done feel free to stick around.

We'll go ahead and install the kit together now. To begin our installation we're gonna be here at the back of our caravan and we need to remove our taillights. So if you open up our hatch where our taillight is bolted to our vehicle, we're gonna remove those two bolts and I'm pulling them out using a 10 millimeter socket. And I wanna mention from this point on anything we do to one side of our vehicle will do to the other side. So it'll be set up the same way.

So we need to pull our light out just carefully wiggle it a little bit. There's some alignment tabs in here that these might get hung up on. Sometimes you could spray soapy water in there to make it easier or you can use a trim panel tool like this just kind of carefully pry it out. And we will disconnect the light. So there's our connector and if you push down on it that should separate it. It's kind of a better look at it. And with our taillight unplugged we can set it off to the side for now. What we're able to do now is grab our wiring harness and we're gonna take the T connector side here that has yellow and brown wires and one end will plug in to our existing wiring and eventually this side will plug into our taillight. But for now we'll just do that. And what we're gonna do is take our four-way flat connector wire, drop that down, as well as our white ground wire and the green T connector wire. So we kind of just push all that down until it drops out of the bottom side of our vehicle. So I also took the big bundle of red power wire that they give you and dropped all that down through there too. And with the exception of you know about a foot or so here, and we'll hook this up. So you wanna strip back the insulation about like that give that wire a good twist, place it into the butt connector and then crimp it down. The white wire, I know I originally dropped this down, but I feel like it's gonna be easier to ground right here in this area. We got a good straight shot there. So I'm gonna take the ring terminal and then take the included self tapping screw and secure this to a clean metal portion of our vehicle's body. At this point we can take our taillight and the other connector, we plug that in. And as far as securing the box here, I really don't want to just stick it to the body. I feel like that'd be okay, but being so dusty in here over time, it wou
