Big four wheel drive or truck ball joints can be stubborn to replace! The ToolPRO four wheel drive ball joint remover set is just what you need to get the job done with ease.

Open up the rugged blow mould storage case and you’ll find 9 pieces that make up the kit. The main component is the C frame and forcing screw. This is complemented by installing and receiving cups, three receiving tubes, and three adaptors - to help you tackle a wide range of tasks.

This tool works much like a compact press. The large, sturdy design means you can apply huge pressure to the trickiest components, often while they are still on the vehicle.

To remove a ball joint, you’ll need to select a receiving cup which fits over the entire ball joint - and gives the C frame something to press on. Have a play around with the accessories to find the best fit. Before working with the C frame, apply some lubricant to the thread. Depending on the ball joint, you may have to remove a circlip; apply some penetrant, and clean up the area a little.

Now place the receiving cup over the threaded end of the ball joint, and position the C frame – tightening it just enough to hold in place. From here, you can use either a rattle gun or large ratchet to wind in the thread, and force the ball joint free. Be careful when using high power impact wrenches, as they can pull threads when the ball joint is overly tight.

Replacing the ball joint means you’ll have to select a few different accessories. Give the area a quick clean up with degreaser and a rag, then choose an installation cup which will apply pressure only to the very outer edge of your ball joint. This part should not contact the thread or joint itself. On the other side, you must select an adaptor which encloses the ball joint without touching it. This allows free motion for the joint to seat in place - while the C frame applies pressure.

Wind the screw in to press the ball joint into place, you should feel a sudden increase in tension – indicating that your ball joint is seated properly.
