Riverside Methodist Cancer Patient Sends a Positive Message

Описание: Mark Williams, Director of Christian Education at First Congregational Church, was diagnosed with cancer and treated at OhioHealth's Riverside Methodist Hospital. In remission today, he shares his journey and sends a positive message of advice to patients in treatment.

Williams shares how he was able to find wonderful opportunities while battling his stage 3 colon cancer. One of the best pieces of advice he was given, was to stay positive.

“Through this time period, you also find that you don’t’ have control over anything in your life. I have to say that you do. And the one thing in life you have control over is your attitude,” says Williams.

He encourage anyone who is living with cancer, to find ways to celebrate – even small ones. A celebration can be triggered by something as simple as making it to the kitchen, walking to the end of the driveway and back, or even talking to people on the phone.

Another piece of advice that Williams shares, is to always find a way to laugh, whether that involves reading a book, watching TV or surround yourself with people who have great senses of humor.

“Research does show that you will have a healthier recovery,” says Williams, in regard to laughter. “And I will have to say all of the people at Riverside, when I was around them, were always making me laugh. And that’s so, so important.”
