Permit on Dry Flies - XCALAK on the Fly - Mexico 2024

Описание: Xcalak, is a permit fly fishing paradise on the Yucatan coast in Mexico. Where permit (and other species) on a dry fly in the form of a floating crab is a very real possibility.

Si returned to Xcalak in October last year for the first time since wrapping up filming “What Lies Above” about the floating crab-eating permit down there in June 2023. This time it was about putting the camera down somewhat and just enjoying the fishery! He asked legendary Alphonse Fishing Company guide Gary de Klerk to come along for the trip and help capture some of the experience, and what a trip it was. Si managed his first-ever tarpon, on a floating crab, and with that his first-ever grand slam! For Gary it was his first trip targeting Atlantic permits and targeted them successfully he did.

Great memories, many margaritas, a great group, and, as always, wonderful fishing. Although fishing is never guaranteed, there is something to be said about everyone in the group achieving the prize multiple times, as well as many grand slams on the lodge board by the end of the week.

Some places just etch their way into your soul. This is one of those places for Si and many other anglers who visit.
