English & Spirituality - Learning English Through Spiritual Stories: The Naked Monk and the ‘I Am’

Описание: In this class, we explored a powerful spiritual short story about a naked monk who declares himself “higher than the king’s counselor,” a statement that sparks curiosity, confusion, and ultimately a deep spiritual realization. Through this story, we reflected on spirituality, universal consciousness, reincarnation, and the true nature of God.
We discussed how the monk’s presence and words point beyond social roles, appearances, and concepts, revealing that God cannot be limited to form, image, or intellectual understanding. Instead, God is the essence of all creation, present in everything and everyone, and can only be truly known through direct experience.
The class also explored the sense of “I Am” — our true identity beyond the body, personality, and personal story — comparing life to a temporary role in a movie. We reflected on how each being is a unique expression of Universal Consciousness, something the mind cannot fully grasp but can be accessed through stillness and meditation. We also touched on how spiritual masters refer to this essence as the heart or core of our being, beyond emotions.
To integrate the teaching experientially, we concluded by listening to Mooji’s meditation “Remain As I Am,” which gently guided us into the direct experience of being and awareness beyond words, highlighting the importance of regular meditation practice.
Alongside the spiritual exploration, we worked on English vocabulary and usage, including words such as appointment, book, and utter, as well as expressions like prank and higher than that. We also discussed practical language related to making appointments with doctors or dentists, and analyzed how language is used symbolically within the story.
This class beautifully wove together language learning, storytelling, and deep spiritual inquiry.
