Surge in agricultural produce prices leads to jump in August's producer price index

Another hint that consumer prices could rise in the coming months,... as Korea's producer price index, often considered a barometer of future inflation, logged an increase in August.

Korea's central bank says the tentative producer price index in August has increased by zero-point-three percent from the previous month.
This is the second month in a row that prices have risen,... and the tenth consecutive month of on-year increases.
This increase is mainly due to a huge jump in agricultural produce prices.
The price of fresh produce surged over 14-percent from last month,... as torrential rain and heat waves hit agricultural production.
The price of peppers and tomatoes, in particular,... saw an increase of over a hundred percent in just one month.
The rate of monthly increase of agricultural produce prices is the highest in more than six years.
Meanwhile,... producer prices for fishery products and livestock fell a little from July's figures.
The producer price index is seen as a barometer of upcoming consumer price rises as it indicates the wholesale price of goods and services,... which are usually reflected in consumer prices two to three months later.
