Have you heard of the Leichtbau Maier, a pioneering automobile from the 1930s? That's not surprising. The Lightweight Maier was a prototype built in Germany in 1935 as a possible competitor to the KDF Volkswagen. Unfortunately for the designer, Frederich Maier, the contract for developing the German 'People's Car' went to Ferdinand Porsche, and Maier and his car were consigned to oblivion. Yet somehow Maier's car managed to survive through terrible times, mistreated and passed from hand to hand, unrecognized and unloved until in 2008 it was purchased by Jorg Jansen. For Jansen it was the beginning of an odyssey to uncover the story behind the car. It would take Jansen eight years to discover the amazing story. Let me explain....
