Other Utilities Restored Power, Five NES Customers in Cheatham County Still Waiting

Описание: Nearly two weeks after a powerful ice storm swept through Middle Tennessee, most of Cheatham County has had power restored, but five homes remain in the dark heading into day 12.

County leaders confirm those remaining outages all involve customers served by Nashville Electric Service. Other utilities operating in the county, including Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation and Dickson Electric System, have already restored power to all of their customers.

Cheatham County officials say the final restorations have taken longer due to the county’s rural terrain and lingering storm damage.

“Most electric companies start where the greatest population is and work their way out,” said Cheatham County EMA Director, Edwin Hogan. “Our area is very rural.”

Hogan said steep hills, creek crossings and limited access points have complicated repairs in certain areas, especially in the aftermath of ice.

“A lot of our residents live across creeks,” Hogan said. “In some instances, crews couldn’t cross until the roads got better.”

FOX 17 News reached out to Nashville Electric Service to ask whether rural infrastructure or logistical challenges were contributing to the delays. In a statement, NES said it is “working to get back on this request” and is “prioritizing restoration efforts to get all customers back online.”

The situation has drawn comparisons to Cheatham County’s historic 1994 ice storm, though county leaders say investments made since then, including increased tree trimming and relocating power lines closer to main roads, helped speed restoration for most residents this time around.

For the few households still without electricity, the prolonged outage has meant continued cold conditions and temporary displacement. County leaders say shelters have since closed, and some families have been staying with relatives until power is restored.

Officials say they have not received any unmet emergency requests but acknowledge ongoing concerns about how long the remaining NES customers will have to wait.
