In this video I show how I modified the sport shift gear selector in my 2006 Subaru Forester SG9 with the 5EAT automatic transmission.
From the factory, you push the gear lever forward to shift up and pull it back to shift down. I have changed it so that pushing the lever down shifts up, and pushing it up shifts down – which feels more natural and intuitive, especially during sporty driving.
In the video I explain how the modification is done and demonstrate how the sport shift works after the change. This modification is inspired by racing-style sequential gearboxes, where pulling back or down is used to upshift.
