A male cyclist was airlifted after an accident in Southern Pines around 10:15 a.m. on Thursday.
The cyclist was riding across U.S. 1 from Murray Hill Road when he turned left onto U.S. 1 North when he was hit by a pickup truck traveling from Council Way.
Southern Pines Fire and Rescue crews had to extricate the man from underneath the pickup truck. He was transported to Memorial Park in Southern Pines, where he was airlifted to a trauma center.
