Clock Repair. Chiming Stop Pin Repair

This video was made to assist clock repair people as well as DIY Grandfather clock repairs in repairing the stop pin on a 5 tube Grandfather clock . This Grandfather clock would not stop chiming. Once it was brought into our clock shop, we were able to see that the clock had a broken pin stop on one of the clock gears. Grandfather clock repair can get costly, however there are some grandfather clock repairs you can do yourself. When a Grandfather clock wont stop chiming, there are several things that could be wrong. This one happened to be somewhat of an easy clock repair only because I did not have to take the Grandfather clock movement apart. This grandfather clock movement is typically used in a Howard Miller Grandfather clock or a Hermle Grandfather clock. Some of the older Seth Thomas Grandfather clocks and Colonial Grandfather clocks used this clock movement in them. Having your Grandfather clock cleaned and re-oiled is on of the main reasons a Grandfather clock will stop chiming. Using a good quality oil such as Horace Whitlock's clock oil will prevent major problems later on, however in this case, the sheer force of the stopping arm hitting the thin stop pin and breaking off was the problem for this Grandfather clock not stop chiming. In this case we were lucky and were able to repair the stop pin without disassembling the entire Grandfather clock movement.
