This project shows the installation of a fiberglass roof deck over a cabana structure. Even smaller rooftop decks need proper waterproofing, slope, and drain integration to perform long-term.
We began by installing ½-inch AC plywood over the existing CDX decking to create a clean, stable substrate for the fiberglass system. A solid base is critical for proper adhesion and durability.
Although the deck appears flat, it is pitched toward three lateral edge drains. Proper slope prevents standing water, which is one of the leading causes of roof deck failure. Each drain was fully tied into the fiberglass waterproofing system to eliminate weak transition points.
After fiberglass reinforcement and resin application, the system was sealed with a protective gel coat to provide UV resistance and long-term durability.
This is a straightforward example of fiberglass roof deck waterproofing done correctly — proper substrate, correct pitch, integrated drains, and a continuous sealed surface.
