Description:
SCP-583 refers to a videotape (and later, digital copies) containing visual and auditory content that causes viewers to experience intense psychological distress, hallucinations, and in many cases, self-harm or suicide shortly after exposure. The original footage appears mundane at first glance—often beginning with normal scenes such as people walking or sitting silently—but quickly shifts into surreal, disturbing imagery and incomprehensible audio patterns that seem to directly affect the viewer's mind.

Even viewing SCP-583 indirectly—such as through recordings, descriptions, or animations that mimic its structure—can trigger its effects. Some victims claim they saw "something watching them through the screen" or heard whispers long after turning the video off.

Special Containment Procedures:
All known copies of SCP-583 are kept in secure, soundproof storage at Site-██. Viewing is only permitted for Level 4 personnel under strict psychological supervision, and only for testing purposes. Digital filters and cognitive hazard suppression software must be used to mask SCP-583’s effects if analysis is required.
