Today I’m doing a quick review of the Drumtec Real Feel mesh heads. So I’ve been using these for a few months now here are my overall thoughts:
These are 3ply mesh heads that have a decently heavy feel to them. I’ve got alot of different types of mesh heads here, this Real Feel set of heads is unique because it blends together a lot of my favorite aspects of different mesh heads I have into one package. These mesh heads don’t have much light leakage at all, so you don’t see the guts on your electronic drums. This is great for the acoustic/electronic setups where you’re going for that natural look. Really one of the only downsides of these mesh heads is that the logo on my set of mesh heads is slightly sloppy, the lines are kinda blurry as apposed to logos on most other mesh heads. This could just be with MY particular mesh heads though, so take it with a grain of salt. As far as acoustic noise goes, these seem to be just ever so slightly louder than regular 2ply mesh heads, it’s a solid middle ground between the pro heads and the other cheap drum head lines they make. I’ll do a rundown later on in the video.
Now about the feel of the mesh heads, they are great. They feel heavier than 2ply mesh heads, less bounce. That’s the one common criticism of mesh drumsets, they are “trampolines” with these mesh heads that’s not the case. Not all 3ply mesh heads are created equal. I’ve tried many different types, ZED 3ply, Jobeky 3ply, Billy Blast 3ply, and Roland 3ply. Sometimes they are really bouncy and there’s no real advantage having that third ply. These Drumtec Real-Feel heads are a cut above nearly all of those.
These Real Feel heads are some of the best mesh heads money can buy. They feel good, low bounce, and they are still pretty quiet. The only downside is that they are kinda pricey. But if you want the best, these are worth considering. I still prefer the Drumtec Pro heads over these because they are the most realistic feeling mesh heads in the world, but the price you pay is how loud they are. The Real Feel line is Drumtec’s compromise between the perfect feel of the Pro Line, and the low volume of the Design series 2ply line. Really solid drum heads.
