Описание: For historical review and comment, today we look at "IBM Introduces Electronic Data Processing for Business" (EDPM) with its 1955 film "Direct Line to Decision," showing the IBM 650 and introducing the new IBM 701 Computer. The 701 was the first of the 700/7000 series. Many early machines are shown in operation. Full color. Runs 24 minutes with an added "Image Gallery" of many early 700 and 7000 series computers, including 702, 705, 709, 7090, 7030 (Stretch), 7080 (at 24:50) This was IBM’s promotional introduction to the new world of "Electronic Data Processing Machines,” or “EDPM.” It explains how EDPM will help businesses improve their operations and reduce workload and costs.
The modern business world of the 1950’s coupled with cold-war defense needs, called for a much higher level of computing power for all things scientific, engineering and business related.

The film highlights IBM's evolution into the electronic data processing world. Many excellent views of machine components, core memory, CRT memory, magnetic tape storage, magnetic card storage and internal IBM factory views. Some highlights are time stamped below:
