Hornets v Sidmouth 11/1/2020

Описание: A hugely entertaining South West 1 West league match between 2nd placed Hornets and 6th placed Sidmouth played on the AGP pitch at The Nest, Hutton Moor Road, Weston-super-Mare.

Hornets scored 8 tries, 4 conversions and 3 penalties, Sidmouth 4 penalties. There were two yellow cards, one for each side. The score did Sidmouth no favours - they played far better than it suggests, putting Hornets under pressure for long periods but they were playing catch up rugby and succumbed to some excellent break away tries.

A word about the referee as well, he had an excellent game, I thought, controlled the match well and let it flow. Refs often come in for a lot of unjust stick in these matches. Unlike refs in the top levels of the sport, they have no TMO/video ref, touch judges are provided by each team so are not impartial, so the ref is on his (or her) own. Despite this, the touchline is full of people know the laws better and see things the ref doesn't, always in favour of their own team of course. Who would be a referee? We do need them - no ref, no match but I don't envy them the abuse they get and I don't like to hear it.
