Elon Musk revealed Something Big Happening with China Moon Mission Before SpaceX or NASA
China is aiming to land humans on the Moon this decade. I bet many already know that. What’s less widely understood, however, is just how rapidly China is advancing, what its detailed plan involves, and what it hopes to accomplish. So today, we’ll take a closer look at China’s lunar program, explore the latest updates, and see just how close they are to setting human footprints on the lunar surface.
China’s progress in spaceflight is undeniably impressive. Despite the conventional wisdom that space exploration is incredibly difficult—marked by trial, error, and slow, incremental progress—China appears to be advancing at remarkable speed. This has sparked debate over how they’re able to move so quickly in a domain where even small gains are historically hard-won.

One particularly compelling explanation comes from Dan Wang, a research fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University and one of the most-cited experts on China’s technological development. Wang argues that China functions as an “engineering state,” while the U.S. has evolved into a “lawyerly society.” According to Wang, by 2020, all nine members of the Chinese Politburo Standing Committee were trained engineers. In contrast, the U.S. has become, in his words, “a government of the lawyers, by the lawyers, and for the lawyers.” The implication is stark: engineers focus on solving problems, while lawyers are often incentivized to manage or even prolong them.

This thesis has gained wide attention and has been shared by influential figures, including Elon Musk.
Jared Isaacman, entrepreneur and commercial astronaut, echoed this perspective. In a recent post, he noted that many in the West still view China through an outdated lens—failing to recognize it as the rapidly advancing peer competitor it has become. He pointed to China’s extraordinary record in executing large-scale infrastructure and technology projects: a 16-gigawatt hydroelectric dam built in just four years, rapid expansion of nuclear power, a 380-mile water diversion tunnel under construction, the world’s largest ultra-high-voltage power grid, over 25,000 miles of high-speed rail, and a planned 100 petawatt laser facility.
