This is a replay of the seminar held on 6 November 2025, with Professor Chengchen Li from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China, as the speaker.
In this seminar, Professor Li explored the evolving role of emotions in task-based language teaching (TBLT), moving beyond traditional cognitive perspectives and anxiety. She presented empirical findings on the significance of diverse emotions - such as task enjoyment, anxiety, and boredom - in second language acquisition, and discussed how a deeper understanding of learner emotions can empower more effective and responsive language learning.
Professor Li also examined the pedagogical implications for creating emotionally supportive and holistic language classrooms, equipping educators and learners with fresh perspectives for fostering positive learning environments.
This seminar was organised by the Department of English and Communication at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
