In this lesson, we introduce 3D Cartesian and cylindrical coordinate systems, two of the most commonly used frameworks in engineering and physics. We start with the Cartesian system (𝑥,𝑦,𝑧), describing displacement vectors, unit vectors, and infinitesimal elements of length, area, and volume. Then, we extend to the cylindrical system (𝜌,𝜙,𝑧), which builds on 2D polar coordinates by adding a vertical axis.
By the end, you’ll understand:
-How vectors are represented in Cartesian and cylindrical systems.
-Infinitesimal elements 𝑑ℓ, 𝑑𝑆, and 𝑑𝑉 in each system.
