Not an alarmist exaggeration at all — it’s something I’ve genuinely observed in class. If the “maze” metaphor feels a bit dramatic to you, let me offer another one: imagine the tangle of power cords behind the computer on your desk at home, all twisted together, looping over and under one another. You don’t have the time or the patience to sort them out and stretch them back into one long, clean line — that feeling is exactly what I mean.
A messy bundle of cables might not affect your work efficiency, but when English gets tangled the same way, the result is mistakes everywhere. A good tutor can fix part of the problem, but ultimately the one who tied the knot has to untie it. If the wrong learning methods keep getting reinforced, the outcome is predictable: you trap yourself in your own maze.
