What does it mean that Jesus is descended from the seed of David according to the flesh? Is Paul simply giving us his genealogical record? Is it simply to inform us that Jesus is a rightful heir to the throne of David? Or does Paul intend for these words to carry much more freight - the entire weight of what the prophets proclaimed beforehand concerning the coming of a new David? It's important that we don't forget that is exactly what Paul wrote in verse 2. What are some of the things the prophets foretold concerning the coming seed of David?
