Budikote, a small village near Kolar district of Karnataka and just 65 KM away from Bangalore. Markandeya Dam is also known as Budikote Dam.

This small village hosts another historical place called Budikote Fort or Fort of Ash, it is the same place where Nawab Hyder Ali, the father of Tipu Sultan was born.

Although it is very near to Bangalore but still mostly unexplored yet beautiful place to spend time with. The Fort of Ash also has two 8th century Lord Vishnu Temple.

You can spend an hour or two in Budikote Fort AKA The Fort of Ash and witness beautiful sunrise or stunning sunset. This place is very less crowded and has no entry tickets. It does not have the dedicated parking area, so park your car sensibly. There is no parking fee as well.

It takes around 20-25 mins to reach to the hill top, it is an easy hike and does not require any specific dress code. There are shops on the roadside where you can have snacks and can get water bottle.

You can club Budikote Dam also known as Markandeya Dam and Budikote Fort aka The For of Ash together and it is kind of a half day outing. So you can start even after having your lunch.

Even though the Budikote Fort and Budikote Dam is so nearby to Bangalore most people do not know about this place and even google does not show it in its list of places to visit near Bangalore.
