Introduction of Bruce Davis

Beginning in early childhood Bruce experienced spontaneous moments of presence and oneness, and these continued through teen years. At 20, the year he entered medical school, he discovered Transcendental Meditation, and when he completed medical studies he spent three years on the staff of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in Switzerland, providing medical support to students of the TM program from all over the world. A friend at the time referred to it as his “residency in consciousness.”

Leaving the TM community, he practiced family medicine for twenty-five years in Seattle but felt that what he could offer his clients was severely limited by the exclusively bio-medical model of care. He then shifted his career to Unitarian ministry, following upon four years in a Jesuit seminary, and served a vibrant congregation north of Seattle for ten years. When he retired from that community he developed a practice of individual spiritual consultations as a spiritual director, which he still continues.

The search for Truth has led him to many teachers and many practices over six decades. He has experienced a variety of meditation practices, became a licensed massage practitioner, explored humanistic psychology, studied with a leading Gestalt therapist, instructed both TM and the Chopra PSM meditations, certified in Chopra coaching, and trained as a Vedic astrologer. Bruce says that all this “seeking” has led to the fullness of much “finding.” Yet Truth in an absolute sense remained veiled.

The current phase of Bruce’s study began three years ago in the non-dualistic writings of the Indian teacher, Nisargadatta Maharaj. This led to the exploration of Advaita teachers including the great non-dual saint of Arunachala, Ramana Maharshi. While listening to the videos of Collette Barnes Whiteman several months ago he began to realize Self as effortless infinite impersonal awarenes. He moved on to several months of daily listening to the captivating dialogs between David Bingham and those who realized Self in their conversations with him. Each dialog brought waves of fresh understanding and experience to a lifetime of seeking. In his first conversation with David he explores self realization and the process of integration, stabilizing the realization of Self as effortless Being in the context of family, work, and day-to-day living.
