Liverpool 8 is a State of Mind.

In 2021, I became the owner of a brick of Mu and eagerly awaited the email from L-13 to give us instructions for their annual event, Toxteth Day of the Dead. It’s called Toxteth Day of the Dead because it is usually in Liverpool 8, Toxteth, Liverpool. When the awaited further information arrived, there was a usual twist to the tale. Toxteth Day of the Dead would be held in Buxton, Derbyshire that year.

The congregation gathered early in the Palace Hotel where we had all been given instructions to book in for the night. Swathes of people in their hi-vis clothing checked in during the early afternoon and by 3pm, they were lining up to follow a guy called Tommy from Liverpool, out the doors and up the road. Tommy took us on a walk through the park, past the Cavern, past the Pier Head and lots of other familiar Liverpool landmarks that we may have missed had Tommy not been there to point them out. Gimpo was making himself useful in keeping people safe and was courteous to the bereaved families, the choir soothed the mayhem.

Tommy led us up the hill, past the ice cream van and up to Solomon’s Temple where the grieving families had the bricks with their loved one's ashes fired in, returned to them one at a time. The flares flashed in the sky, the bagpipes blew and the snow started to fall. We joined the parade down the hill towards where the People’s Pyramid was being loaded off a lorry in a shipping container. The bricks were laid.

Later on, we made our way back to the hotel reception room for the evening. Bill had made us soup to warm us all up in the K2 Works Kanteen.

The following morning I woke up with a wretched pain in my belly (nothing to do with the soup). 3 weeks later I was hospitalised and in a critical condition. It has taken me almost two years to recover and finally go looking on my hard drive for this footage. If you were there, I hope you enjoyed it.

If you are brave enough to dekonstukt yourself, you are brave enough to start again.
