What started in 2024 has quickly grown into a success story at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. Through a unique collaboration between multiple Cleveland Metroparks teams, our silage program is helping provide animals with leafy browse all winter long, something that’s normally hard to come by during Northeast Ohio winters. By collecting, ensiling, and fermenting leafy branches, our teams are able to store this nutritious browse and feed it back to animals throughout the colder months. The effort brings together experts from Natural Resources, Conservation & Science, Horticulture, Facility Operations, and Animal Care to support healthier winter diets while also helping reduce costs.
