New Korean War Memorial monument commemorates Germany's medical support

The War Memorial of Korea... in central Seoul... has unveiled a new monument... commemorating the medical assistance Germany provided to South Korea in the aftermath of the Korean War.
Specifically, the monument commemorates the field hospital Germany operated in South Korea in the years after the armistice.
Among those at the unveiling of the monument was the German Ambassador.
"… for the whole of Germany. We feel very honored and we are very, very grateful that actually this initiative was taken by President Moon Jae-in when he was visiting Germany in 2017. So this is something that we think is a wonderful moment for the Germany-Korea relationship."
West Germany decided to set up the hospital in 1953, the year the armistice was signed.
From May 1954 to March 1959, the German Red Cross Field Hospital admitted more than 240-thousand patients and supervised more than six-thousand births and some sixteen-thousand surgeries.
