The project started in 1979 from a shared idea of Freddy Naggiar and Gian Piero Reverberi, well-known composer and conductor of the Genoese school.

The vast repertoire, based on Vivaldi, Albinoni, Alessandro and Benedetto Marcello, bears the signature of Reverberi, established arranger of Lucio Battisti, Lucio Dalla, Fabrizio De André, Bruno Lauzi, Mina, Gino Paoli, Eros Ramazzotti, Luigi Tenco and Ornella Vanoni .

Not all the pieces of the Rondò Veneziano can be traced back to eighteenth-century models: the repertoire also includes compositions that are oriented towards musical examples from other eras, in particular towards Gioachino Rossini, Franz Joseph Haydn and Frydryk Chopin; others instead reproduce structures typical of pop music, soundtracks or folk, limiting the connection with the past to orchestral sonority only.

Almost completely withdrawn from the Italian scene, the group continued its activity with European tours, enjoying particular success in the German-speaking area such as Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Luxembourg.
