Wales will become the first part of the UK to ban greyhound racing and will do so 'as soon as practically possible'. after more than 35,000 people signed a petition.
The Welsh government said the sport will be axed 'as soon as practically possible'.
The RSPCA said the decision would protect dogs from the 'inherent risks' of competitive racing.
However, the sport's regulator, the Greyhound Board of Great Britain, said the Welsh government had 'bowed to pressure from extreme animal rights movements'.
The industry has strengthened regulation, increased welfare checks and spent millions rehoming retired dogs.
