Amjed Ullah Khan, Spokesman of Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT), has strongly questioned the sudden and unexplained decision of AIMIM to support the Congress party in the recent Rajya Sabha elections in Telangana, despite repeatedly accusing the Congress government and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of anti-Muslim actions.

Mr. Amjed Ullah Khan said that just three days ago AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, while addressing the Assembly, openly accused Congress of being responsible for more than 200 communal riots across India. He also blamed the Congress party for opening the locks of Babri Masjid and paving the way for its demolition. During the same speech, Akbaruddin Owaisi compared Chief Minister Revanth Reddy with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, alleging that just like in Uttar Pradesh where mosques, madrasas and Muslim houses are being demolished and Muslim youths are being falsely implicated in cases, the same situation is emerging in Telangana.

Similarly, AIMIM President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, while addressing the massive Jalse Youmul Quran gathering at Jame Masjid Chowk, accused the Congress government and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of demolishing the historic 800-year-old Dargah Hazrat Syed Tajuddin Bagh Sawar at Vemulawada. He also alleged that the Congress government has failed to control attacks on Muslims carried out by BJP and RSS-backed elements.

Mr. Khan further said that during the municipal election campaign, Akbaruddin Owaisi had strongly attacked the Congress government for failing to implement its six guarantees and even went to the extent of calling Muslim Congress leaders and workers as “Congress ke gulam.”

However, despite making such serious allegations publicly, AIMIM has suddenly extended support to the Congress party in several districts during municipal bodies’ elections and accepted posts such as Deputy Mayor in Nizamabad and Vice-Chairman in Bodhan. Now once again AIMIM has supported Congress candidates in the Rajya Sabha elections.

Amjed Ullah Khan questioned what prompted this sudden change of stance by the Owaisi brothers. He asked whether the issues they raised earlier have been resolved or whether some other understanding has been reached.

Mr. Khan asked the following questions on behalf of the Muslim community of Telangana:

Has the demolished Dargah Hazrat Syed Tajuddin Bagh Sawar in Vemulawada been rebuilt at its original place?

Have the attackers involved in the Jame Masjid Jalalpur incident been arrested by Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district police?

Has the demolished Masjid-e-Moulana at Nizampur Road, Sadasivpet been rebuilt by the Revenue authorities?

Have the Muslim youths arrested after the Bhainsa/Bhanswada incidents in Kamareddy district been released and their cases withdrawn?

Have Muslim fruit vendors whose shops were damaged during communal violence received compensation?

Mr. Khan also pointed out that since Revanth Reddy became Chief Minister there have been three Rajya Sabha elections in Telangana, yet the Congress party has not nominated even a single Muslim candidate. He said the Chief Minister fought with the central leadership to secure a Rajya Sabha seat for his close associate V. Narender Reddy, but conveniently forgot his Muslim associate Faheem Qureshi.

Amjed Ullah Khan said the Muslim community of Telangana has the right to know whether the accusations made by the Owaisi brothers while fasting during Ramzan and while speaking from the Member-e-Rasool during Jalse Youmul Quran were true, or whether their present action of supporting Congress in the Rajya Sabha elections is the truth.

He also questioned the silence of Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, stating that the central leadership appears to believe that by closing their eyes they can hide the political deal from the public.

Mr. Khan demanded that both Asaduddin Owaisi and Akbaruddin Owaisi come out clean and explain to the people of Telangana what prompted them to suddenly support the Congress party despite making such serious allegations against it.
