Founded in 29 BC as a Roman military camp, León grew into one of Spain’s most historic and artistic cities. It became the capital of the Kingdom of León in 910, played a key role in the Reconquista, and hosted the first parliamentary Cortes in Europe in 1118 — a milestone in democracy.
