Highlighting India’s growing economic and strategic importance, McCormick warned the Trump administration that alienating New Delhi would be “big trouble” for the United States. He stressed that India supplies not just investments, but also high-value talent across technology, business, and innovation sectors.

Backing his remarks, Indian-origin Democratic Congressman Ami Bera pointed out that despite recent warming ties with Islamabad, U.S. companies are not making large-scale investments in Pakistan. According to Bera, America’s true strategic and economic partnership remains firmly anchored in India.

The comments come amid concerns that Washington’s recent outreach to Pakistan risks undermining years of bipartisan efforts to build India as a counterweight to China in the Indo-Pacific.
