A Brazilian waitress in Liverpool, Ana Beatriz Machado, won a racial discrimination case after a colleague mocked her accent and said customers “don’t understand her”. A tribunal found the comments amounted to racial harassment. It also ruled her dismissal was influenced by her nationality after she was accused, without enough evidence, of stealing money to send back to Brazil.
