Mawkim - Data Sovereignty Forum Highlights 2025

Описание: The Union of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq and the Data Governance/Mawkim team hosted the Mawkim Data Sovereignty Forum on October 22–23, 2025, at the Delta Dartmouth in Halifax. The forum brought together First Nations communities, researchers, leadership, and allies to share knowledge and advance First Nations data sovereignty. Participants explored ways for communities to reclaim control over their data and knowledge, strengthen community capacity, and develop strategies to assert data sovereignty. The forum also marked the official announcement of Mawkim, a regional data centre in development to serve Mi’kmaq communities in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. The event featured workshops, panels, and presentations led by Knowledge Keepers, community members, researchers, leadership, and professionals.
