Uttarakhand Government Approves Draft UCC Bill | India Today

Описание: The government of Uttarakhand has given approval to the draft Uniform Civil Code (UCC) bill. In a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the assembly resolved to table the bill in the Legislative Assembly on February 6th. Remarkably, the bill also bans polygamy and recognizes the validity of live-in relationships. However, it also provides for the exemption of tribal communities. This decision by the Uttarakhand government is expected to set a precedent, with other BJP ruled states likely to follow suit. The draft was approved earlier this evening in a meeting, after the committee report's presentation to the Chief Minister a couple of days prior.
