Manor Park station, previously in Essex and now in the London Borough of Newham, was first opened on 6 January 1873 by the Great Eastern Railway company. It was originally known as 'Manor Park and Little Ilford' until 1893 when the station was extensively rebuilt and 'Little Ilford' was subsequently dropped from the name.
In 1949, the line between London Liverpool Street and Shenfield was electrified, initially using a 1500V DC current through overhead wires. This would subsequently be upgraded to the new standard of 25kV AC in 1960.
In 2015, local metro services between London Liverpool Street and Shenfield were taken over by Transport for London, initially under the banner "TfL Rail" before it was re-named to the Elizabeth Line following the opening of the central section between Abbey Wood/Stratford and Paddington in 2022.
There is an out-of-station interchange (OSI) between Manor Park and Woodgrange Park stations on the London Overground's Suffragette Line (the Gospel Oak-Barking Riverside line). A similar OSI can also be found one stop west at Forest Gate for Wanstead Park station.
