Both Viggo Mortensen and composer Howard Shore had recently completed their triumphant Lord of the Rings trilogy when they worked with David Cronenberg on this dark suburban thriller. This scene is one of the musical highlights, with some hints of Shore's LOTR coming through. The scene builds up the tension so quickly and effectively, that we then needs several moments afterwards for things to calm back down, just like the breathing of the main character.
Starring Viggo Mortensen, John Hurt. Ed Harris, Maria Bello and Asthon Holmes. Directed by David Cronenberg, with musical by his regular collaborator Howard Shore.
