STORYLINE:

Former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein grabbed the limelight again on Thursday as his trial reconvened after a one-hour break in Baghdad.

Taking the stand, Saddam launched into a diatribe, saying he didn't care if Israeli Vice-Premier Shimon Peres or US President George W Bush tried him.

Referring to the US President, he said, " Damn him, his chair and on his father before him. Double damn."

"I don't care if one or more people in the court has a motive. What I care about is Iraq, the Iraqi judiciary, at least the Iraqi judiciary," he added.

The judge later ordered the session closed after Saddam's half-brother said he had secret information.

Saddam and seven co-defendants are on trial for the deaths of more than 140 Shiites after the attempt on Saddam's life in the town of Dujail, north of Baghdad.
