Step back into the golden age of Hollywood with a Film Noir portrait session. In this video, Gavin teams up with Adorama TV legend Marisa to create dramatic, cinematic portraits inspired by the look of classic noir films.

The session starts by embracing the shadows that are essential to the scene before any flash is even fired. A gridded key light sets the mood with sharp, defined shadows, while a clever separation light (with a surprising gel hack) adds depth without overpowering the scene.

No Film Noir set would be complete without the classic Venetian blind effect. Gavin also adds a vintage projector for atmosphere and, of course, smoke to make the light beams come alive.
