Al Maktoum Bridge Closed for 6 Days
Al Maktoum Bridge located on Umm Hurair Road was the first bridge in Dubai crossing over the Dubai creek. It was built to connecting Bur Dubai and Deira and it opened to the public in 1963. Before Al Maktoum Bridge built, the only way people in Dubai moved between Dur Dubai and Deira was by either using an abra on water or driving all around Dubai Creek through Ras Al Khor.
Al Maktoum Bridge is now partially closed from Mondays to Saturdays to allow maintenance services on the bridge. The bridge is not be accessible for all six days a week between midnight and 5am. Unlike in the past when Dubai had only one bridge, this time drivers who need to cross the Dubai creek during the closure times can use alternative bridges and tunnels like, The Infinity Bridge, Al Garhoud Bridge, Business Bay Bridge, or Al Shindagha Tunnel
Al Maktoum bridge will be reponed to normal operations on Saturday, May 13, 2023, and drivers have to pay a toll of 4 Arab Emirates Dirhams as usual, however cars passing under the toll gate at Al Maktoum Bridge will not have to pay Salik fees during weekday evenings Monday to Friday from 10pm to 6am, and all day on Sundays from Saturday at 10pm until Monday at 6am. These are the times when the Floating Bridge is closed in normal operations.
