Sculpture by the Sea takes place on the edge of the Pacific, outdoors in the fresh air, raked by ocean winds and torched by dramatic sunsets. Many of the observers are in bathing suits and flip flops. It’s primal, compared to the soul-crushing, fetid atmosphere of velvet-rope festivals like Art Basel Miami Beach. So Sculpture by the Sea can probably confidently claim the title as worlds #1 wild, bat-crazy public art showcase.
Oh yeah, where does this happen? On Bondi Beach, NSW, Australia, near Sydney, and along the coastal walk to nearby Tamarama. Every year since around the turn of the century.
