The Frankfurt Christmas Market, known as Weihnachtsmarkt, is located on several squares in the city centre.
And today we will stroll along Frankfurt's famous Weihnachtsmarkt on Römerberg
.But we will begin our journey at Liebfrauenplatz.

The history of Christmas markets dates back to ancient times. The first Christmas markets appeared in the Middle Ages, in the 13th and 14th centuries. They were held to stock up on food for the winter.

"December markets" were mentioned in Vienna (1298), Munich (1310), Frankfurt (1393).
The oldest famous fair is considered to be the Dresdner Striezelmarkt, which was first mentioned in 1434.
In the Middle Ages, winter markets were used to buy goods for winter survival, such as meat, honey, and hay.

Over time, the Fair's assortment expanded, adding decorations, toys, sweets (stolens), and entertainment, becoming part of the Christmas season.

While walking along Römerberg we can see many stalls offering visitors traditional Christmas products and goods.
These are honey gingerbread, roasted almonds, gluhwein and hot food.
There is also a large selection of toys and other souvenirs.

Carousels, music, and garlands of lights create a festive atmosphere.
