Worldbuilding and Drawing a Fantasy Armour Ink Illustration

In this video I’ll talk about fantasy worldbuilding while drawing an ink illustration of a suit of leather armour.

When I draw an illustration, I often try to think about the history behind the item and share it with the viewer.
For example, this armour is a set of elven leather armour with metal details. That means that the people who have created it must have had access to different types of leather, some sort of tannery, and metal.

Elves probably hunt with bow and arrow in the forest, so access to leather is probably quite easy to get. Historically, tanning was often a smelly and unpleasant business, but maybe the elves have invented a less unpleasant procedure to prepare the leather.

However, it seems illogical that they would have mined metal (although I believe that they probably are quite good at silver smithing), so this means that the elves regularly trade with other people.

But who would wear this type of leather armour? It’s not lavishly adorned and engraved, but it’s well made and a lot of skill and time went into making it…
