A custom end grain cutting board I made for a close friend out of wormy maple.
Wormy Maple, or Ambrosia Maple, has a misleading name as the mineral streaks and color variations are actually caused by the Ambrosia Beetle. The beetle infests the live Maple tree, depositing larvae that bore small “worm holes” and discolour the wood to create unique patterns and streaks.
As usual I cut a lot of sanding from the video, but my process is to go from 80 - 320 grit in stages and then finish the edges by hand.
I ran the CNC 3 times initially to fine tune the speed to reduce burning in the juice groove, which would be a pain to sand out after.
